Adaptive MOOCs

The primary weakness of current MOOCs is the largely flat and presentational nature of the courseware. The linear and sequential videos sometimes feel like YouTube plus questions, supplemented by the learners doing much of the heavy lifting in peer assessment. It’s all front-end, with little back-end punch. This lack of adaptive, algorithmic power means that the courses struggle to be as responsive as many feel they should be. Compare this to the algorithmic approach that Google, Facebook or Amazon use to contextualize search and ads, or boost recommended purchases.
