Pedagogy Should Always Precede Technology: SAS Curriculum Pathways' Mobile Learning | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

"When people talk about programs to replace face-to-face teaching and learning experiences (my classroom!), I start to squirm. I started Mobile Learning, a book written collaboratively by SAS Curriculum Pathways, with a healthy dose of skepticism; however, I was soon won over because there is a respectful balance between the promotion of mobile learning and the necessity for sound pedagogy."

A practical guide for educational organisations planning to implement a mobile learning initiative.

This infoKit is a practical guide to thinking through the issues relating to institutional adoption of mobile learning. It follows a JISC Mobile and Wireless Technologies Review which delves deeper into the theory behind mobile learning and the wider context. One of the biggest take-aways from that review is that mobile learning is still in its infancy and that mobile learning, as explained in What is mobile learning? is about the mobility of the learner rather than the device.

5 Methods Of Delivering Mobile Learning Content

Like related learning trends, including 1:1 schools, game-based learning, and personalized learning, mobile learning is one of the least well-understand movements in education.

Part of that confusion likely stems from trying to understand how this new approach to learning relates to existing avenues. One of mobile learning’s defining characteristics is its methods of delivering–or enabling access of–content. Whether that content is authentic or academic, self-directed or teacher-sourced, understanding the various ways mobile content can be delivered in and out of the classroom is one of the first steps in making sense of it as a learning trend.

This is a continuation in my series on mobile learning.

What is digital curation? For those who visit museums or galleries, curators are those who are expert in a specific genre of exhibit, and who ensure that the displays are kept up to date, accurate and relevant to the viewing public. Curation is at the very heart of the success of any museum or art gallery. Digital curation is similar in many ways. It is becoming more important as content increases.

Digital Literacy Training Improves Mobile Learning Outcomes

Digital Literacy Training Improves Mobile Learning Outcomes | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
One of the paradoxes of higher education is the gap between students’ fluency in technology and their ability to use digital tools to further their own learning. College students may spend most of their waking hours “connected,” but they spend most of their online hours socializing and consuming entertainment. They don’t necessarily know the best way to use mobile devices for educational purposes.

They lack, in the parlance of our day, “digital literacy.”

Mobile learning and blended interaction | Learning with 'e's

Mobile learning and blended interaction | Learning with 'e's | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Veteran education theorist Michael G. Moore once wrote about three types of interaction. Learners interact, he said, with content, with their teachers and with each other. Other theorists subsequently expanded on this interactional triumvirate. Leslie Moller suggested a fourth kind of interaction - interaction with the interface. His proposal reflected not only the proliferation of computer technologies but also a growing interest in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and cognitive science.
