To Scale Permanent HyFlex Classrooms, Consider the User Experience | EdTech Magazine

To Scale Permanent HyFlex Classrooms, Consider the User Experience | EdTech Magazine | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

At the start of the pandemic, higher education institutions rushed to set up hybrid flexible (HyFlex) classrooms without knowing how permanent these arrangements would be.

As it turns out, students are quite happy with HyFlex, which gives them the freedom to choose between face-to-face, synchronous and asynchronous classes. Some studies have found this flexible structure can even improve student success. “We have students who, quite literally, would have had to drop out if their courses had not been available in the HyFlex format,” Kevin Gannon, professor of history at Grand View University, writes in The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Earlier this month, I encountered a thought-provoking talk by Tim Sherratt making the very strong argument that seamlessness should not be our only goal in designing digital library systems. The talk is a year old but it is well worth reading today.

Evaluating and Improving the School Library User Experience

Evaluating and Improving the School Library User Experience | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Hannah Byrd Little writes: "Seven recognized factors impact or influence the user experience. Though some of the factors seem similar, I hope to explain the nuanced differences.  Since school librarians are the librarians who “do it all” in their libraries, they need to be concerned with the user experience."

This article is so timely! I'm back at work, revising my orientation presentations, setting up book displays and doing all the other beginning of the school year tasks. This is my ninth year in this library, and it's fascinating to look back on all the changes we've made. Even with our recent renovations, it's important to assess how our library works for our students and staff. Hannah's framework provides a way to evaluate your library from the user viewpoint. (It's also prompted me to work on a survey for returning students on their user experience in our library!)

How To Apply User Experience Research (UX) To Instructional Design (ID)

How To Apply User Experience Research (UX) To Instructional Design (ID) | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Developing my first mobile learning app has been an exciting process. I think we take for granted the research behind the creation of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and online learning platforms like Thinkific and Teachable. Instructional Design and a learner-centered approach are still at the core of the process, but there are many elements outside of the traditional way of building an online training or course.

10 text layout FAILS in online learning | Donald Clark Plan B

10 text layout FAILS in online learning | Donald Clark Plan B | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Text is tricky. Looks easy but on screen it is so easy to make it difficult to read, even unreadable. You have to keep a cool head and resist the temptation to make it glitzy, noisy and ‘cool’ in favour of the clipped, readable and comprehensible. This tension between look and literacy is real, and needs balance, but you can make things look great and readable at the same time. That’s real design.

Studying Use, Sharing Space | The User Experience

Studying Use, Sharing Space | The User Experience | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
A big part of improving library user experience is designing libraries based on user preferences and behavior. There’s no way to optimize touchpoints or create meaningful services if you don’t know anything about who you’re trying to serve, right? Many libraries collect and analyze user opinions, but fewer dive deeper into examining actual user behavior.

Why UX in libraries is a thing now | Andy Priestner

UX (or User Experience) incorporating usability studies, ethnographic research, and service design, is now being actively embraced by librarians. This presentation details this definition and briefly traces the history of ethnography and its relevance to, and adoption by, libraries.

This presentation was given at the Business Librarians Association conference in Leicester in July 2014.
