Has BlogBank.com Figured Out How to PAY Bloggers? via @theBlogBank #startups

Has BlogBank.com Figured Out How to PAY Bloggers? via @theBlogBank #startups | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it
Get paid for blogging! If you have something people want to read, share it on blogbank and make money in the process.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Blog Bank

What if you could get PAID to blog? Sounds great right? But there's a problem. I don't blog to get paid. I blog to give back

Blog Bank is an interesting startup with an easy to use, well-crafted microblogging and micropayments User Interface. I blog almost daily and know a passel of bloggers. Would they like to get paid?

Sure, but no one I know blogs to get paid OR we get "paid" in other currency such as followers, shares, and likes. If you read the great book DRIVE: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by Pink note his discussion of mercenaries vs altruists.

Pink puts the money motivated at 15% of the population with 85% wanting to "do the right thing". Every blogger I know would blog and is blogging without a thought to currency compensation.

"Blogger psychology" creates a significant barrier for BlogBank.com as structured today. The chance even my friends with  following that dwarfs mine would make enough to pay for the meal I just had at Durham's Burger Bach seems remote and besides the point - they don't care and don't blog to make burger money.

On the other hand, BlogBank.com has created a smooth, mobile friendly and potentially cool tool IF / WHEN they expand their game. My friends don't blog for cash, but they sure do so for OTHER KINDS OF COMPENSATION (OKC).

I try to keep a running total in my head. When someone shares, likes or does some menschy thing to support Curagami.com or content on one of my social nets I try to make a mental, "need to pay back" note. If that "mental note" sounds precarious and fraught with lost opportunity you know me (lol).

What if BlogBank.com could do some basic Online Reputation Management and tell me when I'm OVER or UNDER with major supporters, those who JUST supported me (or my content) and alerted me to those I SHOULD be supporting?

If you read David Amerland's important What If We Had A New Value System for Goods and Services you can tell that one stumbling block is lack of a BANK. Maybe BlogBank.com isn't what it thinks it is or, better yet, maybe it is what we need it to be they just don't know it yet :). Marty

Dumbest Excuse SMBs Use to Avoid Blogging

Dumbest Excuse SMBs Use to Avoid Blogging | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it
SMB owners and managers often rattle off myriad excuses about why they don't blog. The worst excuse is not having enough time. Here's why that excuse doesn't fly.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Working on a piece for startups about how to create content marketing. Content marketing is the new advertising, the new market maker so to NOT blog and curate content across social nets is to give up on having online authority.

How will people BELIEVE, JOIN and GIVE MONEY to things without authority? Answer: They don't. Follow the tips here, my favorite is delaying gratification, and your startup or SMB strategy will be better.

How Blogging Accelerates Startup Growth

How Blogging Accelerates Startup Growth | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

Marty Note
I wish I could sit every startup entrepreneur down and have them read this post about how blogging accelerates growth. Need funding? Spending tons of time pitching? Why?

If I could share a way for a startup not to have to have absurd conversations with people who will NEVER invest in their startup they would ask me what they need to pay for that kind of magic.

Guess what, the magic is FREE, all you have to do is write what is happening, create some videos and share your progress. I've been writing about The Social Startup and blogging is a KEY aspect of creating the kind of content people find and want to CALL YOU.

If that last sentence translated like this, "You get to keep more of your company," then you get the idea. Even if you never make a dime from the content you share blogging is worth doing. You will LEARN so much from sharing, getting feedback and reacting.

That kind of feedback is MAGIC and worth its weight in gold. When I worked in marketing at M&M/Mars we paid BIG BUCKS for the kind of information any entrepreneur can get FREE now. So SHARE and then ASK, SHARE and ASK again. Bet you make more money that way than bieng 100% widget focused.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

I previously curated this piece into Curation Revoluiton, but, on the eve of Christmas, I'm moving it to Startup Revolution because startups need to focus on making content as strategic as every other aspect of their marketing. If you are a startup is your blog/content strategy ready for Christmas?

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, December 11, 2012 8:58 AM

Great post from my friends at Paper.li (@SmallRivers) on how to get your blog ready for all the new stuff happening now and in 2013. Is your blog ready for 2013? Not until you've read this excellent post from Paper.li.

Kelly Hungerford's comment, December 11, 2012 2:54 PM
Thanks Marty, much appreciated. We're having such a great time with Mack and the #blogchat community. There is amazing knowledge share and fun going on and it's been an incredibly rewarding experiencing bringing the two communities together and I'm learning a ton. Join us if you can!
Kelly Hungerford's curator insight, December 11, 2012 3:20 PM

I saw this tweet today from Marty and laughed. He's got such a great sense of humor. I highly doubt that his blog isn't ready for 2013. From what I enjoy from his blogs, he is the master of content and keeping readers loyal, so my guess is that he's got it all under control.

But in any case, we hope to see him and anyone who wants to exchange ideas, tips and best practices as well as share in some festive seasonal fun!

Paper.li joined forces with Mack Collier's #blogchat for the month of December and we've been having a blast. It's an early wake-up call for Switzerland - 3am, but it's well worth it! Join us and check it out!
