Reid Wilson writes: "School library spaces are changing, as is the language we intentionally use to open these conceptual shifts. Despite the evolution of concepts and vocabulary, the one thing that remains constant is a school library’s focus on optimizing learning. The graphic above does not seek to be mutually exclusive in language, but rather situationally inclusive as we reframe and redefine the potential that can exist within school libraries in the 21st century."
Some older posts hold up well (and two years is a long time ago in the Future Ready world!) Take some time to explore this infographic. I view the concepts as not either/or, but yes/and. As Beth Holland states in her post on library commons, "Instead of looking at technology as supplanting the traditional, we could explore the ways in which it enhances the traditional." (Emphasis added.) This really helped me with my niggling annoyance that the Future Ready Librarian framework doesn't mention what I feel is a fundamental role of a school librarian: to help every student see herself as a reader. I know that when we read the framework, we all see ways to promote books and encourage reading, but I just wish it were more explicitly stated.
