Unplug from technology. This is a difficult one as we all love our technology! But you can become easily overwhelmed and overstimulated with communication and information. This results in wasted time and poor decisions. By taking brief breaks, you’ll find that you return feeling calmer and clearer, with more energy and creativity. Make a pact with yourself to initiate break times throughout the day away from all technology. Just making this adjustment will go a long way in lowering your stress levels!

Digital health should mature from apps to innovative environments

Digital health should mature from apps to innovative environments | Tech Mindful | Scoop.it

Take, for example, the use of smartphones and wearables to deliver mindfulness therapies. There’s something ironic about your phone beeping to tell you to relax and then incessantly buzzing until you tell it you took a deep breath. Perhaps it is not surprising that only a small percentage of mindfulness apps, 4 percent to be exact, provide actual mindfulness education and training.

Art, Technology, and Humanism - Journal #82 May 2017 - e-flux

Art, Technology, and Humanism - Journal #82 May 2017 - e-flux | Tech Mindful | Scoop.it
This status of the artwork as an object of contemplation is actually relatively new. The classical contemplative attitude was directed towards immortal, eternal objects like the laws of logic (Plato, Aristotle) or God (medieval theology). The changing material world in which everything is temporary, finite, and mortal was understood not as a place of vita contemplativa but of vita activa. Accordingly, the contemplation of artworks is not ontologically legitimized in the same way that the contemplation of the truths of reason and of God are. Rather, this contemplation is made possible by the technology of storage and preservation. In this sense the art museum is just another instance of technology that, according to Heidegger, endangers man by turning him into an object.

Inbox Pause: Fight Back Against Email Overload

Inbox Pause: Fight Back Against Email Overload | Tech Mindful | Scoop.it
Imagine you saw an ad for "one weird email trick" that could help you feel less stressed and get more done, while still responding to messages just as quickly. You'd probably think it was a scam.

But new research shows there is in fact one weird email trick that has all these benefits, and the idea is startlingly simple. Just turn off email notifications, check email three or four times a day, and don't look at your Inbox any other time. Participants in a study who followed this advice saw increases in heart rate variability, which indicates lower stress levels. Their average response times were right in line with people who check email all the time. And best of all, participants in studies that limited email checking have reported feeling like they were more productive, with much more time to focus on important, valuable work.

AutomatedBuildings.com Interview - Lawrence Ampofo

AutomatedBuildings.com Interview - Lawrence Ampofo | Tech Mindful | Scoop.it
Digital mindfulness is a name given to describe the harmonious deployment and interaction with digital and digitised environments. In this age where billions of hours are spent by people in digitised environments, the choices we make in the ways such digital artefacts are deployed matter to the health, wellbeing, and continued development of the person and the organisation more generally.
