Kurt Vonnegut's rejected anthropology thesis proposed that the shapes of a culture's stories was at least as important as the shapes of their pots and spearheads. I've been interested about the potential relationship of literary form to visual form, how we understand them logically, intellectually and emotively. How could a drawing, painting or work of architecture express the ideas contained in a work of literature through the use of form? You can see Vonnegut discuss his ideas on the shapes of stories in this clip on YouTube: |

I have a Slideshare that aligns with this, based on my experience with the young adult multi-platform novel, Kiss Kill.

Very interesting infographic about storytelling. It shows really relevant present approaches that must be seriously considered in education

Maybe a tad too complex for our young students, but still a nice way of understanding the foundations of storytelling!!

Seven steps to the perfect story is a great visual representation of how to build a story. This clearly explains the process of how students can construct their narrative and the types of characters they will use. I would definitely use this in my classroom to help students understand the process of creating a narrative. |
